Türkiye's deepest copper mine

Our Küre Operation, where copper production has been used since the Genoese era, holds the title of Türkiye’s deepest and largest underground copper mine. Known as "Küre-i Nühas," meaning "Copper Furnace" in Old Turkish, our operation experienced its most vibrant period between 1300 and 1500, according to historical records. Some written sources also suggest that the copper used in the cannons during the conquest of Istanbul was sourced from Küre. Today, we continue production with modern and cutting-edge technologies. With an annual production capacity of 160,000 tons of copper concentrate, our operation also features Türkiye’s deepest ore hoisting shaft at a depth of 960 meters. The hoisting shaft, which is also used for personnel transportation, has a tower height of 65 meters. The plant includes a 12-kilometer main ramp leading to the base and comprises 40 production levels. Additionally, with 13 refuge stations, it ranks among the safest mines in the country.

In addition to copper concentrate, our Küre Operation also produces pyrite concentrate, which serves as the raw material for our Mazıdağı Metal Recovery and Integrated Fertilizer Plant. Like all our other plants, Küre continues to make environmental and social contributions. In this context, our operation is the main sponsor of the Kastamonu Dinamik Spor Kulübü Women’s Handball Team and also sponsors the Kastamonu Table Tennis Team. Our plant supports the Şerife Bacı Half Marathon, one of Kastamonu’s internationally significant events, every year and contributes to education and sports through the Ekrem Cengiz Sports Complex, which it gifted to Kastamonu.
